Update about The West Pole
February 10th, 2009

Dear all,

Hope you are all fine and well!
We are currently mixing our new album The West Pole. It seems we need a bit more time to make this album something really outstanding, so we decided to postpone the release date a bit. The album will be in the shops first week of May.

As said before the album will also be available via our webshop around March, and we will ship the packages beginning of April. Of course we will have something extra, like always. Because of our 20th anniversary (it all started in 1989), people who buy a special The West Pole package (new album and exclusive t-shirt) will get the EP City From Above for free! Yes, it’s our birthday so it’s good to give something away. This EP includes some unreleased tracks that didn’t make it on The West Pole as well as the 13 minute epic instrumental title-track which we wrote for Arr. 2, a combination of dance and music which was performed in The Netherlands in 2008.

To fill the gap between now and the actual date we will put some songs on our MySpace and the announcement of the names of the vocalists (beginning of March), I can give you some song titles of our new album The West Pole. Some titles are: When Trust Becomes Sound, Treasure, All You Are, You Promised Me A Symphony, The West Pole, Capital Of Nowhere, No Bird Call, Pale Traces, No One Spoke, and Constant Run.
What’s more to say about The West Pole? On various songs we worked with a string ensemble, and we used some ‘exotic’ instruments like Stylophone, and a real Harmonium, a very old wooden keyboard instrument. René produced the album (for the very first time). In fact, everything we could do ourselves, we did. What you get on The West Pole is more The Gathering than ever.

Finally! Here we are

Hi all!

Yes, finally we are back! Fresh new start, brand new homepage, new songs on our revamped MySpace, and you can order great packages at our webshop right now!

But first of all I like to announce Silje Wergeland as our new vocalist! Silje has been the singer of the Norwegian band Octavia Sperati for 8 years including several other projects. She did a superb job, as you can hear on our MySpace and new Gathering album ‘The West Pole’. More info about Silje soon. This album also includes two very talented guest singers: the Dutch Anne van den Hoogen and Mexican Marcela Bovio (from Stream of Passion), and some other guest musicians.

What can we say about ‘The West Pole’? It’s a very vital, atmospheric and extravert rock orientated album, with all the quality and power The Gathering is so famous for, also with many new elements. The sound is guitar driven, alive and urgent; a strong and beautifully coloured album with haunting female vocals. It’s produced by guitar player René Rutten and mixed & mastered by Zlaya Hadzich (who also did the production of ‘Souvenirs’) and René.

I hope you enjoy listening our new songs and our new homepage and myspace.

Per quanto riguarda le collaborazioni, mi fa piacere che abbia cantato anche la Bovio, ha una bella voce!

hm... i like it.

uhmm.. non male.
la voce mi piace abbastanza, e in certi tratti ricorda quella di Anneke..
bisogna vedere come se cava sui pezzi vecchi..

beh non ha la profondità della voce di anneke... però ecco... senza dubbio i pezzi mi piacciono proprio.. sono più curioso di sentire l'itero disco, ma in cantina non c'è ancora...

Il prossimo album dei THE GATHERING, intitolato "The West Pole", ha finalmente una data d'uscita ufficiale. L'album uscirà il 4 Maggio via Psychonaut Records.
