Gli Empyrium sono una band tedesca fondata nel 1994 da Markus Stock (sotto lo pseudonimo di Ulf Theodor Schwadorf) e Andreas Bach. Il gruppo si cimentò inizialmente con il symphonic folk/doom metal per poi passare a composizioni più dark folk/neofolk.
La tematiche della band sono molte, a seconda dell'album prodotto possono essere quelle della natura, dell'oscurità, della tristezza, del dolore e/o del romanticismo.
Ulf Theodor Schwadorf fa parte anche del progetto gothic metal The Vision Bleak.
